The present invention relates to a composition for preventing, alleviating or treating obesity comprising a partial fragment of HIV-1 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus-1) Tat (Trans activator of transcription) protein. The peptides of the present invention induce anorexia and increase lipolysis, beta-oxidation of free fatty acids, thermogenesis, and total energy expenditure, therefore may be effectively used for preventing or treating diseases related to metabolic imbalance such as obesity.
