PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a sidewall, which can improve low fuel consumption and cut resistance in good balance; and to provide a pneumatic tire using the same.SOLUTION: This rubber composition for a sidewall includes a rubber component and silica, where the rubber component contains a conjugated diene polymer having a structural unit based on the conjugated diene and a structural unit represented by formula (I), and at least one end of the polymer is modified with a specified compound, the content of the conjugated diene polymer is 5 mass% or more in 100 mass% of the rubber component; and silica is contained by 5-150 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the rubber component. In formula (I), X, Xand Xeach independently represents a group represented by formula (Ia), hydroxy group, hydrocarbyl group or substituted hydrocarbyl group, at least one of X, Xand Xis a group represented by formula (Ia) or hydroxy group. In formula (Ia), Rand Reach independently represents a 1-6C hydrocarbyl group, silyl group or substituted silyl group, Rand Rmay link together to form a cyclic structure with a nitrogen atom. |
