An air-conditioner and a control method thereof are provided to perform the air-conditioning operation for an area where a user mainly works. An air-conditioner(100) comprises a user activity sensor(130) and a control device. The user activity sensor divides an air-conditioning space into a plurality of areas, and then senses the activity of a user by measuring the temperature value and distance value generated from heating sources of each area. The control device grasps one of the areas in which the user mainly works from the sensed result and then controls the air-conditioning operation so as to be performed in the grasped area. |
