PURPOSE: A compound isolated from a Hemistepita lyrata Bunge extract, and a composition containing the same for preventing and treating dandruff are provided to strongly suppress M. obtuse, and to be used as an external use skin pharmaceutical composition or a cosmetic composition for preventing and treating dandruff. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating dandruff contains hemistepsin A, hemistepsin B, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof isolated from a Hemistepita lyrata Bunge extract as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition is a cream, a gel, a patch, a spray, an ointment, a lotion, a liniment, a paste, or a cataplasma formulation. A cosmetic composition for preventing and treating dandruff contains hemistepsin A, hemistepsin B, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient.
