A nuclear fuel element comprises a cylindrical rod of fuel encased in canning which has external helical fins, the channels between the fins being interrupted to promote turbulence in the flow of coolant over the element. The turbulators may be continuous strips extending along the element and completely or partly blocking the channels, or separate plates or studs, not necessarily in line, may be used for each channel.</p> |
