PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery excellent in adhesion between a collector and an electrode mixture layer, an electrode and slurry for the electrode for the battery in a system containing a polyacrylonitrile resin as a binder, and to provide a homogeneous electrode plate where the slurry for an electrode has high thixotropy, an active material and the like do not precipitate, and the electrode mixture layer is not unevenly distributed.

SOLUTION: A binder for an electrode for a secondary battery is obtained by causing a hydroxylamine or a salt thereof to act on a nitrile group-containing polymer. A slurry composition for an electrode, an electrode for a secondary battery, and a secondary battery contain the binder.
