The examining system (1) is provided with a carrier tape (3) having multiple consumer items (4), where one end of the carrier tape is fixed on a winding device. A display (9) provides the information about the size of the supply of unused consumer items of the carrier tape. The information about the size of the supply of still unused consumer items of the carrier tape is determined. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring a remaining supply of unused consumer items.
