<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EGR parameter estimation device for an internal combustion engine, which can accurately estimate an EGR parameter representing either an EGR amount or an EGR rate using a relatively simple approach both in a normal operating state and in a transient operating state of the internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: A first EGR parameter EGRR_SD is calculated using an intake air quantity GAIR detected by an air flow sensor 10, and a second EGR parameter EGRR_K is calculated using a ratio of an EGR valve opening degree function KLEGR and a sum of the EGR valve opening degree function KLEGR and a throttle valve opening degree function KTH. The first and second EGR parameters are weighted in such a manner that as an engine speed variation ΔNE of an internal combustion engine 3 is greater, a first weight coefficient LPF with respect to the first EGR parameter EGRR_SD becomes smaller and a second weight coefficient HPF with respect to the second EGR parameter EGRR_K becomes greater.
