PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To start up an emergency mode if a touch panel of a portable terminal is damaged and a display defect occurs.

SOLUTION: Processing in which a portable terminal having an emergency mode performs (S400) includes the steps in which: a control unit 100 starts a normal use mode of the portable terminal on the basis of an instruction transmitted from an operation unit (S410); the control unit determines whether or not the portable terminal has received impact on the basis of output from an impact detection unit (S420); and if it is determined that the portable terminal has received impact (YES in S420), the control unit starts the emergency mode by switching an operation mode (S430).
