<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system that enables a bookstore to accurately perform a replacement work in a short time by selecting the books that are not expected to be sold among the books displayed on the bookshelves at the present time and the books with a high possibility in the sales to be replaced with those books, in order to improve the turnover of the books on the bookshelves at the bookstore for a growth of the bookstore with a higher profitability as the most important subject for creating a bookstore is a selection of items constituting the bookshelves. <P>SOLUTION: The system comprises a database including a database of coded images of spine covers of books. Books displayed on bookshelves at the present time and the book genres are known on the basis of a bookshelf captured image for each bookshelf to determine a book to be returned. The position of the book to be extracted is indicated on the bookshelf captured image. A hot-selling book that is to be replaced with the book to be returned but not available now is extracted as a book to be ordered.
