<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal color printer which eliminates variation in printing start positions of a ribbon, and can efficiently consume ink. <P>SOLUTION: The thermal color printer 1 calculates the feed amount of a supply core 9 corresponding to the delivery distance (X) as a calculated slit amount (Y) of a pulse encoder 16 based on a diameter (D) of a ribbon 2 wound around the supply core 9 when detecting the leading edge of each of application areas 2a of the ribbon 2, the slit amount (N) per rotation of the pulse encoder 16, rotates the supply core 9 for the integral part (y1) thereof, drives the pulse motor for the fraction delivery amount (x) calculated from the decimal fraction part (y2) while the thermal head 3 is in a lowering state, and feeds the ribbon 2 in the opposite direction to the paper discharging direction together with the roll paper 6. Accordingly, the leading edge in each color of the ribbon 2 is positioned right under the thermal head 3 to start printing from the leading edge.
