The gas sensor (10) has a substrate layer (20), a functional layer (30) and a catalyst layer (50). The functional layer is arranged between the substrate layer and the catalyst layer. An intermediate layer (40) and a covering layer (60) are arranged between the functional layer and the catalyst layer. The functional layer is a magnesium iron alloy or magnesium titanium alloy. The catalyst layer consists of platinoid, particularly of palladium or platinum. The substrate layer consists of a material selected from the group comprising glass, quartz glass, polycarbonate, sapphire or silicon.
