<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery capable of being used for aerospace applications even if the battery has a structure with a safety valve. <P>SOLUTION: A molten salt battery B comprises: a molten salt battery main body with molten salt as electrolyte; a battery case 11 accommodating the molten salt battery main body therein, the battery case 11 being sealed in a state with its inside air pressure decompressed; and a safety valve 12 provided in the battery case 11, the safety valve 12 operative to release pressure when the pressure difference between inside/outside of the battery case 11 exceeds a prescribed value. The molten salt battery with such configuration has quite a low moisture level in the battery case, because when manufacturing the molten salt battery on the earth, during a process of reducing its inside pressure, the moisture content inside the case is discharged. However, since molten salt is non volatile, the molten salt battery has no particular undesirable effect from the decompression. When the battery is carried to the aerospace and the environment becomes vacuum state, the pressure inside becomes higher than outside. When the pressure difference between inside/outside exceeds a prescribed value, the safety valve 12 opens to operate a pressure release. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
