摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve mechanism which can be opened easier with the increase in opening of a valve element, can prevent occurrence of striking sound and deflection with respect to a rotary shaft and can be smoothly opened and closed. <P>SOLUTION: A variable valve mechanism which contains a torsion coil spring 51, supporting member 52, and the valve element 53, and forces the valve element 53 to turn against biasing force by pressure of exhaust gas flowing in an exhaust passage 25a so as to change an opening state of the exhaust passage 25a, is equipped with a rotary shaft 54 for freely turnably supporting the valve element 53 and an insertion shaft 55 inserted into the torsion coil spring 51. The torsion coil spring 51 consists of a first arm part 62 and second arm part 63. The supporting member 52 comprises a first arm supporting part 74 for supporting the first arm part 62, an insertion shaft supporting part 73 for supporting the insertion shaft 55, and a rotary shaft supporting part 72 for supporting the rotary shaft 54.
