摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus at low cost and downsize the apparatus in a sub-scanning direction. <P>SOLUTION: A traveling body 220 mounts a first contact type imaging element 211 on the upstream side position of a sub-scanning direction and a second contact type imaging element 212 on the downstream side position, where edge parts of the elements overlap with each other in the sub-scanning direction. An effective reading region 230 has a first white reference board 251 allocated on the upstream side of its outer region and a second white reference board 252 allocated on the downstream side of it. The traveling body 220 is moved so that the first contact type imaging element 211 reads the first white reference board 251 and the second contact type imaging element 212 reads the second white reference board 252.
