Authentication using, via the interface (170 or 140), image selection data representing an image selection from a set of candidate images; and authenticate in accordance with the image selection data. The images may be selected by user gestures, such as a drag and drop or swipe on a smart phone or other computer with a touch screen, or other interface, for example in a web interface for financial transactions. QR Bar codes may be scanned and received from devices such as cash registers and automatic teller machines, and password authentication completed by a secure link with the bank using user choice of pictures for payments. The images may be randomly displayed in a grid.
