Provided is a method with which it is possible to produce, with high productivity, a high-molecular-weight fluorine-containing olefin/vinyl alcohol copolymer that has excellent thermal stability and from which a strong film can be formed. This method for producing a fluorine-containing olefin/vinyl alcohol copolymer is characterized by obtaining a fluorine-containing olefin/vinyl alcohol copolymer by: emulsion-polymerizing a fluorine-containing olefin and vinyl ether in the presence of an aqueous medium and an emulsifier; and then transforming repeating units derived from vinyl ether into vinyl alcohol.
