PURPOSE: An antibacterial composition containing Ilex Rotunda leaf extract or phenylpropanoid-based compounds is provided to ensure excellent antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus. CONSTITUTION: An antibacterial composition contains Ilex Rotunda leaf extract, caffeic acid, 3,5-dicaffeoyl quinic acid, 3,4-dicaffeoyl quinic acid, 3,5-dicaffeoyl shikimic acid, 3,4,5-tricaffeoyl quinic acid, or quercetin-3-rutinoside as an active ingredient. A composition has an antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The extract is prepared using water, anhydrous or hydrous low alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms, acetone, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, dichlormethane, chloroform, hexane, or 1,3-butyelne glycol. The composition is a cosmetic composition, functional food composition, or feed additive composition. |
