Racemic and optically active 1-(p-allylphenoxy) - 2 - hydroxy - 3 - isopropylaminopropane and their acid addition salts are prepared by standard methods, e.g. reacting 1-(pallylphenoxy) - 2,3 - epoxypropane with isopropylamine, optionally followed by resolution and/or salt formation. The compounds of the invention are #- adrenergic blocking agents and local anaesthetics, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them in association with a carrier or diluent.
