Provided is an immersion inspection device whereby it is possible to optimally set an angle of projection of illumination upon an object using only image information. An illumination unit (20) has a joint which adjusts an angle at which light is projected vertically and horizontally on the inner wall face of an atomic reactor (1) which is an object to be inspected. An image processing means (31) computes an image parameter from an image which is photographed with a camera (22) which denotes a color tone of the surface of the object to be inspected. An illumination determination means (30A) uses the image parameter to evaluate the illumination state. An illumination control means (30B) uses the result of the determination from the illumination determination means (30A) to control the angle of illumination by the illumination unit.
