[Also in Division F2] A method of producing a body portion for collapsible tubular container comprises forming a laminate containing at least one layer of thermoplastic material and at least one layer of metallic material and having longitudinal edge portions containing thermoplastic material only into tubular shape by overlapping the edge portions and fusing the edge portions together to form a longitudinal seam containing thermoplastic material only. The metallic material may be aluminium or tin with a paper backing if required, and the thermoplastic material may be a polymer of ethylene, vinyl chloride, or propylene. In the construction shown the laminate is drawn from a reel 7 through a forming die 12 the overlapping edges being fused by a heated roller 15. The so formed tube which is formed about a mandrel 8 then passes through a coating die 13, the coated tube on passing from the mandrel 8 being inflated by compressed air issuing from an outlet 10 of the mandrel. In a further embodiment the laminate is formed by a radio frequency heating process (Fig. 4, not shown), the laminate so produced being then passed directly through the tube making machine of Fig. 1. The thickness of the laminate is from 0.005 to 0À009 inch thick, the metal foil is from 0À001 to 0À002 inch thick, and the thermoplastic is from 0-002 to 0À003 inch thick. The laminate disclosed comprises two layers of thermoplastic material surrounding a metal layer (Figs. 2, 3, not shown).
