<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery including a gas generation material which causes inner pressure of a battery case to increase in a predetermined condition and suppressing influence on a battery performance due to the gas generation material. <P>SOLUTION: The secondary battery of the present invention includes: an electrode body 80 including a positive electrode and a negative electrode; a battery case housing the electrode body 80; a gas generation material 60 for generating gas due to temperature rise disposed inside of the battery case; and a current cut-off mechanism which actuates when the inner pressure of the battery case is increased due to gas generation from the gas generation material 60.
