A contact cleaning surface assembly capable of removing and/or collecting small particles from a double-sided thin sheet material comprises a first cleaning surface 102 capable of collection and/or removal of contaminating particles from a first contaminated surface of a contaminated substrate 116, a second cleaning surface 104 capable of collection and/or removal of contaminating particles from a second contaminated surface of a contaminated substrate 116 and wherein at least part of the first cleaning surface 102 has different adhesion properties when compared to the adhesion properties of at least part of the second cleaning surface 104. The adhesion properties are preferably provided by one or more of mechanical adhesive forces such as surface roughness, chemical adhesive forces, shore hardness and/or electrical adhesive forces. The cleaning surfaces 102, 104 may be provided as rollers which may be electrostatically charged. Adhesive rollers 110, 112 may be present in the apparatus to clean the first 102 and second 104 cleaning surfaces.
