The method (300) involves receiving a seat occupancy signal (310), which represents occupancy of a seat of a vehicle. Free flight reference information is generated (320) based on comparison of a course of the seat occupancy signal with a reference course for the seat occupancy signal. Other free flight reference information is received based on a value of an acceleration sensor of the vehicle. The latter free flight reference information is combined with the former free flight reference information to produce a free flight condition signal.
