<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device capable of restraining a discharge lamp from blackening and suppressing widening of the distance between electrodes, and a method of driving discharge lamp and a projector. <P>SOLUTION: A light source device 1 comprises: a discharge lamp 500 having a light-emitting container containing a cavity 512 where a discharge medium is encapsulated therein and a pair of electrodes 610, 710 in which their edges are arranged facing each other in the cavity 512; and a driving device 200 supplying driving current to the pair of electrodes 610, 710. The driving current is AC current with amplitude modulated and a frequency of 1 kHz or more to 10GHz or less, is configured by modulating the amplitude of the AC current so that a first interval and a second interval having an amplitude being smaller than that of the first interval, are alternately repeated, and B/A is set to 10% or more and 90% or less when a total period of the first interval and the second interval is defined as A and a period of the first interval is defined as B. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
