<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain high image quality by easy control. <P>SOLUTION: A main controller makes a thermal head instantly move to retreat from a position of print posture to a position of retreat posture immediately after finishing transfer of a color material ink layer. Since a peeling plate moves integrally with the thermal head interlocked therewith, the peeling plate transits from first posture to second posture. Immediately after finishing transfer of an overcoat layer, the thermal head is made to transit to the retreat posture after a termination position Pe of a print area of roll paper passes a prescribed position Ph in a conveying direction of the roll paper for print.
