Magnetic nanoparticles comprised of a magnetic material that can be energized by the application of alternating magnetic fields and a coating material that provides for dispersibility in an aqueous system and uptake by phagocytes, and systems comprised of these particles to produce an anti-tumor effect are described, as are methods for using such compositions and systems.
