The invention relates to a method of forming an article by stereolithography using 3 dimensional computer aided design (CAD files). The method comprises creating a first sub-file which represents the article, and which defines a number of openings having a dimension above a first predetermined value. The method further comprises creating a second sub-file which represents solid elements lying within the openings, which define final openings of a second predetermined value, less than the first predetermined value. The two sub-files are then combined to manufacture the article so that the body and the elements are formed integrally with each other. The article may be formed from a metal or polymer power which is sintered, melted or otherwise fused together to form a solid article by the application of a point heat source such as a laser or electron beam. |
