The accumulator (1) has a storage core (2), and an external casing (4) enclosing the core under formation of an insulation area (3). The core is movable between two functional positions e.g. storage position and loading position, relative to the casing. The core is connected with the casing by a supporting element (8) i.e. elastic body, where the core is movable by a drive (6). A coupling element (9) connects the core with the drive, and a heat exchanger is arranged in a part of the casing. The coupling element has a force transmission unit (10) that is supported in the core. An independent claim is also included for a method for storing thermal energy.
