NEW SHARK-DERIVED SULPHOTRANSFERASE

New shark-derived sulphotransferase involving obtaining a new enzyme called C6STib with sulphotransferase activity, which is obtained from the genome of the elephant shark (Callorhinchus milii) and responsible for the sulphation of chondroitin in the shark and capable of introducing sulphate groups selectively at position 6 of N-acetylgalactosamine and at position 2 of glucuronic acid that are present in chondroitin from a variety of origins. The invention describes the nucleotide sequence that encodes said protein and also the amino acid sequence thereof, the use of said nucleotide sequence in the development of gene constructs, the expression thereof in host cells and the use of this enzyme in the field of sulphated chondroitin synthesis.
