PURPOSE: A depth information generating apparatus, a method thereof, and a three-dimensional image converting apparatus are provided to maximize three-dimensional effect by generating a three-dimensional image after adaptively generating depth information according to the kind of an input image. CONSTITUTION: A depth information generating apparatus(100) includes a feature information extracting unit(110), an image classifying unit(120), and a depth information generating unit(130). The feature information extracting unit extracts one or more feature information about an input image(11). The classifying unit classifies the input image based on extracted one or more specific information. The depth information generating unit generates depth information according to a classification result.
