[Class 140] [Also in Groups XVIII and XX] A transfer comprises a backing sheet bearing by soluble adhesive a flexible film bearing a plurality of spheres embedded in a reflecting layer so that the film may be removed from the backing and adhered to a sign or support to produce reflex reflection. Fig. 1 shows a base 10 of paper, metal, wood or celluloid carrying a soluble paste layer 11, a varnish film 12 and covered with a further varnish or lacquer layer 14, and a reflecting adhesive layer 15 which may be transparent and in which are embedded glass spheres 16 acting as reflex reflectors and covered with a protective varnish layer 17. In use the paste layer 11 is softened with a suitable solvent, the base 10 removed and the flexible composite layer adhered to the desired support with or without the application of further adhesive. Alternatively the layer 14 may be omitted and the layers 12 and 15 applied in the shape of a design which, after removal of the backing, may be adhered to the support as desired. The film may be of cellulose or derivatives thereof or of casein or material or synthetic resin. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes a transparent base such as a cellulose derivative coated with varnish or lacquer in which the glass spheres are embedded and the whole is adhered to the desired support by the use of a suitable adhesive which may be coated on the back of the support. Cubes may be used in the place of spheres. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
