<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object determination device which retains many features of the eye, the nose, the mouse, or the like of the face when an object, for example, is a human face and where it is less likely to be in an occluded area without a comparison reference value being too general. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of pairs of blocks in which any two of a plurality of rectangular blocks included in one template is a pair are set, a score showing the degree to which a part of an object is included in the template by a magnitude correlation of block luminance value of each block pair is held, the processing is performed with respect to all templates, and a total sum value of scores of all the templates determines whether or not the object is included in an image. Since any one of the plurality of rectangular blocks included in one template can be comparison reference value, size of an area of the comparison reference value is smaller (not too general) than conventional.
