The invention relates to an occupancy detection device for detecting occupancy of a seat in a motor vehicle, having - an electric oscillatory circuit (2), which has a first and a second inductor (L1, L2) as well as at least one sensor element (3); - means for applying an alternating voltage to the oscillatory circuit (2); - means (6) for determining at least one electrical characteristic variable (U2) in the oscillatory circuit (2), wherein the electric oscillatory circuit (2) experiences a change as a result of a change in the surroundings of the sensor element (3), with the result that occupancy of the seat can be detected on the basis of the electrical characteristic variable (U2) which is determined; and - a first and a second terminal (11, 12) via which a heater controller (4) can be connected to the occupancy detection device (1) in order to be able to operate the sensor element (3) simultaneously as a heater, wherein the first and second terminals (11, 12) are arranged in such a way that a direct current which is made available at these terminals (11, 12) by the heater controller (4) is fed to the sensor element (3) via the first and second inductors (L1, L2). |
