<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melting furnace for metal smelting, which has high productivity by generating at high speed while inhibiting the thermal deformation of an ingot and is excellent in economical efficiency through the viewpoint of equipment cost. <P>SOLUTION: The melting furnace for metal smelting comprises a hearth, a mold and an ingot pull-out part. The length of the pull-out direction of the mold is set in a range of 1 to 3 times the corresponding diameter of a mold cross-section standard perpendicular to a pull-out direction (the corresponding diameter of the mold cross-section standard means a diameter in the case of circular forms, and a diameter calculated by assuming to be a circular area corresponding to a cross section in the case of noncircular forms). The energy density of a heating source irradiating the pool in the mold is 0.05-0.10 KW/cm<SP POS="POST">2</SP>, and the mold used at a smelting velocity of the ingot to be smelted in a range of 0.1-3.0 Kg/hr/cm<SP POS="POST">2</SP>is prepared.
