PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a macrocyclic diester having musk like aroma with small environmental load for responding the need of natural tastes which consumers desire.

SOLUTION: The method of producing macrocyclic diester having musk like aroma includes: a step of reacting cells of a microorganism or treated product of the same with fatty acid or its ester to obtain α, ω-dicarboxylic acid; and a step of reacting obtained α, ω-dicarboxylic acid with diol to be cyclized.
