The method involves eliminating a natural cytotoxicity of kapok fibers (5), so that the kapok fibers are used for a hygienic- and/or cosmetic product e.g. cotton pad (1). A bleaching process is used for elimination of the natural cytotoxicity of the kapok fibers. A bleaching action is provided for bleaching the kapok fibers. A natural anti-bacterial effect of the kapok fibers is obtained and/or a natural wax layer of the kapok fibers is removed. Water absorption capacity of the kapok fibers is increased by a factor of 400. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a kapok fiber (2) a non-woven fabric for hygienic- and/or cosmetic products.
