发明名称 Improved knitted fabric and method of and apparatus for the production thereof
摘要 803,083. Knitting. VEB VEREINIGTE STRUMPFWERKE ESDA. Jan. 28, 1955, No. 2635/55. Class 74 (2). A knitted fabric having stitches of different lengths is composed of one or several synthetic threads capable of retaining permanently any stretch imparted thereto, the thread or threads being so stretched in thus forming simultaneously all the loops of a course that the crosssectional area of the thread or threads in the stitches is substantially inversely proportional to the length of the stitches. Groups of longer and shorter stitches may alternate, both walewise and coursewise, to form a chequerboard pattern. The shorter stitches may be normal or less than normal length. Courses of longer stitches 1 and courses of shorter stitches 2 may, say, alternate; or a long stitch course may be succeeded by a course of stitches of normal length, in turn succeeded by a course of stitches of less than normal length. Patterning may be enhanced by dyeing the fabric, the short and long stitches taking the dye differently. The fabric may be produced by the aid of a needle-supporting bar 5 having the edge facing the needles stepped, those needles 3 opposite the recesses being able to yield more, as the sinkers are advanced, than those opposite the projecting portions and thus cause shorter loops to be sunk. To form the chequerboard pattern, the bar may be shogged longitudinally, or two bars may be used. Jaquard control may be employed. Alternatively, the different lengths of stitch may be obtained by different extents of sinker movement; or use can be made of rods behind the frame needles. The stretching of the thread may be effected during the downward movement of the needles through the upper edges of sinker nibs or through the knocking over bits.
