The invention relates to a method used for changing the operation state of an internal combustion engine. At least one sensor is used for detecting data standing for the operation state of the internal combustion engine and the data is transmitted to an adjusting device. The adjusting device determines the optimal operation range of the internal combustion engine according to the data and the target of the operation state of the internal combustion engine is made to be suitable for the optimal operation range. Operation parameters of the engine used for a combustion process are determined to be predetermined values used for keeping or reaching to the optimal operation range and the actual values of the operation parameters of the engine are adjusted to the predetermined values.
