900,946. Inhalers. HIRTZ, H., [trading as HIRTZ & CO.], and HIRTZ, H. J. Oct. 21, 1958 [Nov. 12, 1957], No. 33679/58. Class 81 (2). An inhaler includes a chamber which contains a heating element 12 and is connected to a face mask 10, one or more annular chambers through which air passes to the heating element being formed by walls disposed around the heating element, the walls having passages 16, 18 which are staggered in the longitudinal direction of the apparatus. A face mask 10 is connected to a container 14 forming a handle by an intermediate member 11. The container is divided by a cylindrical wall 17 into a central chamber 19 which passes also thermostatically-controlled heating element 12, and an annular chamber 13. Air entering the chamber 13 through holes 16 passes to the central chamber 19 and through the heating element 12. The heated air passes through a non-return inlet valve 24 to an intermediate chamber 20 in the intermediate member and thence to the mask. A non-return exhalation valve 25 is provided on the intermediate member or on the mask. A perforated tube 28 containing absorbent material impregnated with medicament projects through an opening into the intermediate chamber. An internally-threaded cap 30 attached to the tube 28 fits over an external union 32 and thus closes the opening 31. When not in use, the tube 28 is secured in a bottle of medicament by the cap. The intermediate member may be attached to the container by a flexible hose. There may be several annular chambers through which air passes to the heating element. |
