PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a baking method of a heavy metal-containing raw material capable of enhancing the removal ratio of heavy metals. SOLUTION: The baking method of the heavy metal-containing raw material for removing heavy metals from the heavy metal-containing raw material by a chlorinating volatilization method has a mixture forming process for forming a mixture by adding at least 1-3 mass% of a chlorine ion compound to the heavy metal-containing raw material in an aqueous solution form to form a mixture and a baking process for baking the mixture using a countercurrent type rotary kiln 2 for passing heat in the direction opposed to a mixture feed direction. In the baking process, the mixture is baked at a baking temperature capable of chlorinating heavy metals by the chlorine ions of a chlorine ion compound aqueous solution to volatilize them to precipitate the heavy metals from the heavy metal-containing raw material, the precipitated heavy metals are subjected to the liquid phase chemical reaction with the chlorine ions and the heavy metals bonded to the chlorine ions are evaporated to remove the heavy metals from the heavy metal-containing raw material.
