The medical imaging system has X-ray device and control module (11) that is arranged in pivotal arm (13) connected to patient desk (10) via a joint (14). The joint is made of electro-viscous material. The viscosity of the electro-viscous material is changed by the application of electric field, so as to move the pivotal arm. An independent claim is included for method for operating medical imaging system.
