<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power unit for welding which can suitably detect the tip voltage of an electrode used for control, and contribute to further improvement of welding performance. <P>SOLUTION: In a measurement mode, the total resistance value and total inductance value on the output side of the power unit are calculated, and the resistance value r of resistance inserted onto the main electric circuit for prescribed terms Ta, Tb during a short-circuit is held inside a controller together with the resistance value and inductance value.
