REMOTE SENSING OF GAS LEAKS

A gas filter correlation radiometer mounted on an aircraft is flown over a target area. The gas filter correlation radiometer is configured to detect ethane (C2H6) gas in the event of a gas leak. The gas filter correlation radiometer may use an ethane peak at 3000 cm-1 to detec ethane. The gas filter correlation radiometer uses background radiation to detect ethane. The gas filter correlation radiometer splits incoming radiation into two paths with different ethane path lengths, detectors on each path having corresponding pixels having collocated fields of view, the corresponding pixels being sampled simultaneously to detect ethane.
