1,140,575. Ammunition feed mechanism. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 20 April, 1966 [7 June, 1965], No. 17385/66. Heading F3C. An ammunition feed mechanism for belted ammunition comprises a stripping mechanism in the form of a sprocket 40 mounted at one side of an ammunition feed path and an ammunition support provided by a spool 30 mounted at the other side of the feed path. The ammunition belt is of the disintegrating variety and is made up from links 10 having a pair of ammunition supporting loops extending in one direction from a central portion and a further loop extending in the other direction, the further loop co-operating with the space between the pair of loops of an adjacent link (Figs. 4, 6, 7 not shown). In the feeding, a cartridge in the ammunition belt rests on a pair of end flanges on the spool 30 (Fig. 3, not shown) when a tooth of the sprocket 40 engages the central portion of a link 10 and depresses the pair of loops between the flanges on to a pair of hub portions 32a, the single loop falling away from the following cartridge on further rotation of the sprocket 40 and engaging a reduced portion 33 of the hub of the spool 30. The belt is driven by a sprocket 60 coaxial with the stripping sprocket 40. |
