There is provided a method for determining the zero time point of an ultrasound pulse sequence. In this method two pulse sequences are transmitted between two ultrasound transducers. First a long (at east n+1 pulses), and then a short pulse sequence (n pulses) are transmitted, wherein n is at east 2 pulses (2 periods of an ultrasound oscillation). Since the amplitude of the received pulse (n+3) is greater in the long pulse sequence than in the short pulse sequence it is possible to assess when the (n+3) pulse started (zero time point - ie, where (n+3) period starts), which can be used to determine the zero time point of the first pulse.
