Provided are a liquid crystal optical element and a manufacturing method therefor excellent in mass productivity and capable of ensuring connection reliability of the liquid crystal optical element and realizing reduction in size and cost of the liquid crystal optical element. The liquid crystal optical element is configured such that a liquid crystal is sealed between a first substrate on which a common electrode is formed and a second electrode on which a plurality of segment electrodes is formed, a plurality of electrode terminals formed to be exposed to the outside is provided at a plurality of corners of side surfaces of the liquid crystal optical element, and the plurality of electrode terminals is formed extending in the thickness direction of the liquid crystal optical element.
