<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet carrying device which is compact and has reduced loads on sheets, a separating piece used for the sheet carrying device, and an image reading device equipped with the sheet carrying device. <P>SOLUTION: The separating piece 32 includes a sheet-like curved plate portion 32P curved toward a pickup roller 31. The curved plate portion 32P has a curved surface 32S contacting the pickup roller 31. The curved plate portion 32P is extended, in X-axial direction, from a contact portion PT of the curved surface 32S and the pickup roller 31 to both upstream side and downstream side in X-axial direction. A pressing portion 33 presses the separating piece 32 toward the pickup roller 31 by biasing force of a spring.
