A method of treating subterranean formations using tri-n-butyl tetradecyl phosphonium chloride (TTPC) to reduce bacteria load is provided. Optionally, the method includes the steps of providing a treatment fluid, particulates, and TTPC wherein the TTPC is in liquid form or in solution; coating the TTPC onto the particulates; combining the particulates coated with TTPC with the treatment fluid to create a suspension; and, placing the suspension into the portion of the subterranean formation. Alternatively, the method includes the steps of providing a treatment fluid and TTPC wherein the TTPC is in the form of a solid salt; placing a coating onto the solid TTPC wherein the coating is selected from a group consisting of degradable coating materials, non-aqueous tackifying agents; aqueous tackifying agents; silyl-modified polyamide compounds; or resin; combining the coated, solid TTPC with the treatment fluid to create a suspension; and, placing the suspension into the portion of the subterranean formation. As a further alternative, the method includes the steps of providing a treatment fluid, TTPC, a crosslinker, and an anionic crosslinkable polymer; crosslinking the anionic crosslinkable polymer with the crosslinker in the presence of the TTPC to form a gel matrix; combining the gel with the treatment fluid to create a treatment fluid mixture; and, placing the treatment fluid mixture into the portion of the subterranean formation. |
