<p>In order to reliably perform a safety enhancement operation and to reliably improve fuel efficiency while a vehicle is moving, a vehicle travel control device for controlling a moving vehicle (1) starts an engine (3) if it is predicted that the actuator (26) of a pre-crash safety system (22) actuates while the vehicle (1) which moves by means of the force generated by the engine (3) is cruising with a stopped engine (3) for the purpose of reducing the fuel consumption amount. As a consequence, power can be generated by means of an alternator (10) disposed on the engine (3), making it possible to increase the supply of power. Therefore, it is possible to ensure that a device actuated by electricity and for improving the protection of the passengers in the vehicle (1), such as the actuator (26) for assisting in braking, becomes actuated and to improve the reliability of the safety enhancement operation which is an operation to improve the protection of passengers.</p> |
